Job Description
The Drug Prevention Program Specialist will serve as role model and mentor to students, parents, and teachers in the community to help prevent and educate individuals from experiencing substance use disorder, drug overdoses, connect to community resources, and the general health and wellness of the school.
Reports to: Assistant Superintendent/Director of Schools
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years working with individuals with substance use disorder and minimum of two (2) years’ experience educating and working with youth.
Qualifications Required:
- High school diploma or GED certificate upon hire, 18 years of age or older
- Maintain a valid driver’s license
- Demonstrated commitment to cultural humility
- Knowledge of and/or experience with substance use disorder
- Proven ability to build relationships and engage with a variety of constituencies
- Experience creating curriculum and facilitating workshops
- Strong communication skills – both written and oral for large and small groups as well as in person and via phone/email
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint as well as counterpart programs in the Google suite
- Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience
Primary Functions:
- Tracking drug related issues within the school district
- Developing programs and coordination of events
- Preparing reports on district issues and present those reports
- Maintain, support, engage, and connect with current community organizations
- Conduct virtual and in-person training
- Remain apprised of current trends and integrate into daily functions
- Create and implement prevention and intervention programs
- Serve as a role model and mentor for students and their families
- Encourage students and family voice and choice during development and implementation of plans
- Empower students to make good choices and live a better life
- Help students and families enhance relationships
- Display excellent written and oral communication skills
- Recommend project performance improvements, as needed
- Other duties as assigned
