Tolbert to speak at Campbellsville University’s Dialogue on Race chapel

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky — Dr. Samuel Tolbert, second-term president of the National Baptist Convention of America International, is the Dialogue on Race chapel speaker at Campbellsville University at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 12 in Ransdell Chapel, 401 N. Hopkins Ave., Campbellsville, Ky.

Dialogue on Race started in 1999 and has involved many guest speakers as well as meetings to discuss racial injustice and concerns.

Tolbert was elected as president of the National Baptist Convention of America International in 2014.

He has served as a pastor of Greater St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church in Lake Charles, La., for over 40 years.

Tolbert organized, led, partnered and participated in various amounts of global mission trips spreading the Gospel of Christ around the world including the Bahamas, Canada, France, England, Germany, Ghana, Guyana, Haiti, Israel, Mexico, Jamaica, Italy, Panama, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Switzerland.

Tolbert is serving as a member of the board of supervisors for Southern University System in Baton Rouge and chairman of the board of trustees at Simmons College of Kentucky.

He served as a commissioner for the Lake Charles Housing Authority for 12 years as a representative of District “A” on the Lake Charles City Council.

Tolbert has a bachelor of arts degree from the historic Bishop College, a master of divinity from Payne Theological Seminary, and he earned a doctor of ministry from Union University.

Tolbert is married to Matilda Tolbert, and they have two daughters, Candace and Kayla.
