Job Summary

The Physics Instructor will plan and instruct Physics lectures and labs, as well as astronomy courses on our Prestonsburg campus and online. Teach a minimum of 15 credit hours, utilize online resources, including Starfish, Blackboard, etc., be involved in academic advising, professional development and committee work.

Job Duties:

  • Planning and implementation of lecture and lab instruction.
  • Student advising.
  • Completion of required paperwork.
  • Attend faculty meetings and training.

In addition to teaching both face to face and on-line classes, the faculty member is expected to:

  • Advise and mentor students in curriculum and career choices.
  • Develop, assess and revise curriculum.
  • Actively recruit students.
  • Maintain on- campus office hours.
  • Serve on college committees and participate in college events and activities.
  • Provide external service to the community and participate in professional development activities.
  • Teach astronomy courses, physics courses and laboratories.
  • May develop new courses and opportunities for program growth.
  • To meet enrollment needs, faculty members may occasionally work on different campuses.
  • Other duties may be assigned based on institutional needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Physics and/or other qualifying fields including Physics, Engineering or other related fields.
  • A passion for teaching undergraduate students and an ability to effectively work with teams is essential to success in this position
  • Credentials must be granted from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree is preferred.
  • Teaching, Blackboard, and three years of experience is preferred.
