This Frankfort “Aging Services Leadershhip Internship” opportunity for 2023 will be May 15-July 28, 2023- It is cohosted by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services/ Office of the Secretary. Must submit an essay to apply.
Eligible Student:
- Academic Program Level: Undergraduate (Upper Division) or Graduate
- In-Major with a Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better (4.0 scale)
- Discipline: Health Administration, Public Administration, Gerontology, or other Related Discipline
- Institution: Accredited Post-Secondary Institution in Kentucky
- To Apply – submit* by March 24, 2023:
- 300-500-word essay describing the student’s interest in serving older and/or disabled adults.
- Recommendation Letter from student’s Academic Program Director (including commitment of a faculty advisor during the internship)

Purpose: Observe Kentucky’s health and human services regulatory processes – regulation development based on enabling statutes, agency oversight of service providers and associated policy interpretation.
Activities:
- Departmental Rotation: Shadow (or interview) key staff members throughout the Cabinet’s healthcare services-related agencies.
- Project Assignment: (TBD – based on student interest/focus in the following topics)
- Accuracy and completeness of directories: contact info for licensed providers
- Operational Culture: inclusiveness and equity enhancement
- Strategic Planning: implementation tracking of the CHFS plan
- Other
- Other Duties, as assigned
- Preceptor: Dr. Keith Knapp, Office of the Secretary, CHFS & UK College of Public Health
- Meet with student at least weekly
- Meet with Faculty Advisor at least twice during internship term
- Evaluate student performance (including completed assignment/project)
