Position Summary:
Student Success Initiative. The Military and Veteran Advisor, working with institutional student success partners, provides coaching, mentoring, advising, and support to Veteran and Military-affiliated students on the Statesboro Campus of Georgia Southern University.
Essential Functions
- Assists Military-affiliated and Veteran students in developing meaningful and appropriate educational and career plans, in support of the University’s retention, graduation, and student success goals.
- Collaborates with college-based academic advising teams.
- Refers students, as appropriate, to campus resources and services.
- Partners with the Office of the Provost, the Office of Admissions, the Military Resource Center, the Student Veterans Association, and other offices to support initiatives and activities for Veteran and Military-Affiliated students.
- Participates in orientation sessions, including presentations and registration.
- Maintains student records, exercising discretion and confidentiality.
- Communicates effectively, in person and electronically, with a wide variety of constituencies.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Effective communication (verbal and written), organization and human relations skills; ability to work well in a diverse environment; proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; legally authorized to work in the United States; successful completion of background investigation prior to employment.
Preferred Education: Masters Degree
Preferred Experience:
One or more years of related higher education work experience; experience as an Academic Advisor or Academic Coach
