Artist el-Yasin to speak as part of Dialogue on Race at Campbellsville University

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Artist Howard el-Yasin will be a guest speaker and exhibitor for Campbellsville University’s Art & Design Department as part of the university’s Dialogue on Race.

The artist talk will be Monday, Oct. 17 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. in The Gheens Recital Hall in Gosser Fine Arts Building, 210 University Drive, Campbellsville, Ky.

An opening artist reception, followed by the exhibition titled “Unpacking,” will be from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. in The Pence-Chowning Art Gallery, 205 University Drive, Campbellsville, Ky.

The exhibition will run Oct. 17-Nov. 4 and is open to the public.

The exhibit is curated by Azucena Trejo Williams, associate professor of art and design.

In 2021, el-Yasin presented on several original artworks related to race as part of Dialogue on Race for Trejo Williams’ Studio Problems classes.

A native of New Haven, Conn., and a New Haven interdisciplinary artist, curator and educator, el-Yasin has received degrees from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA ’16),  Wesleyan University and New England College and serves as an adjacent faculty member at Maryland Institute College of Art.

el-Yasin has exhibited artwork nationally, which is also in several private collections, and they are the co-founder/curator of “SomethingProjects,” an artist-run curatorial initiative.

el-Yasin is a trustee of the Vermont Studio Center and former VSC residency fellowship (2012) recipient and has also served as a volunteer leader with numerous Connecticut-based non-profit organizations, including the director/curator of Arts Literature Laboratory (2002-2009).

The Pence-Chowning Art Gallery hours for the fall semester are as follows:

Monday—9 a.m.-10 a.m.; and 4 p.m.-6 p.m.; Tuesday—9 a.m.-noon; and 1 p.m.-5:45 p.m.; Wednesday—9 a.m.-10 a.m. and 1 p.m.-3 p.m.; Thursday—9 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-5:45 p.m.; and Friday—9 a.m.-11 a.m.; 1 p.m.-2 p.m. and 4 p.m.-6 p.m.

Campbellsville University is a widely acclaimed Kentucky-based Christian university with an enrollment of nearly 12,000 students.
