Campbellsville University announces Underwood as director of undergraduate admissions

Andrea Underwood

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Andrea Underwood, a two-time graduate of Campbellsville
University, has been promoted to director of undergraduate admissions at the university.

Underwood served as interim director of undergraduate admissions, where she implemented efficiencies in recruitment planning, including coordinating across all Campbellsville University centers and reducing recent issues of turnover among admission recruiters through training and staff development, and she led this year’s increase in new student enrollment.

“Andrea remained the constant source of goodwill and positive relationship with our local community among all of the changes in leadership and staffing in the admission area,” according to Dr. Jason Meriwether, vice president of enrollment management.

“Seeing her earn this role is an example of CU at its finest. She represents the best of the CU story as a local high school and CU graduate, becoming the champion for access to our entire university.

“I most admire her ability to lead with optimism, strategy, collaboration, and commitment to CU’s Christian mission while she focuses on empowering her team to elevate as leaders on our campus.”

Meriwether said, “Thank you to Monica Bamwine, search committee chair, and each committee member for their deliberative and thoughtful work during the search for a permanent director. After interviewing a group of talented and qualified candidates, Andrea demonstrated herself to be well prepared to lead our undergraduate recruitment.”

Underwood earned her Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Management in 2012, followed by earning a Master of Business Administration in 2016. Before returning to Campbellsville University in 2017, Underwood served as a victim advocate in the Taylor County Attorney’s Office.

She returned to the university as a dual credit counselor in 2017 before implementing and leading the CU Rise program for nontraditional and adult students.

In 2022, she began serving as assistant director of on-campus enrollment before being appointed interim director later this year.

A native of Greensburg, Ky., Underwood is the daughter of Johnny and Cindy Houk of Greensburg.

Underwood said, “I am excited for the opportunity to lead the undergraduate admissions team while also strengthening our networks and collaborative efforts with other campus leaders, offices and teams. I cannot wait to serve Campbellsville University as your director of undergraduate admissions.”

Underwood serves as a volunteer dance coach at Taylor County Middle and High Schools. She is married to Derek Underwood, an in-school suspension teacher and assistant softball coach at Taylor County High School.

They have two daughters, Makayla, in the band at Taylor County High School, and Savanna Cowherd, a December 2020 graduate of Campbellsville University, married to Jordan Cowherd, a May 2020 graduate of the university.

Underwood began her new position Nov. 1 and can be reached at adunderwood@forms.campbellsville.edu or at (270) 789-5367.
