The Art and Design Department at Campbellsville University and the Florence Classical Arts Academy in Florence, Italy are building a relationship in the arts.
Four CU students will be taking a Drawing III course that will be taught by CU’s assistant professor, Taren Morse, from June 19 through July 18 at the Florence Classical Arts Academy in Florence, Italy.
This is the first summer studio course the Art and Design department has offered. Instead of using facilities at CU, students will be given the opportunity to utilize studios in Italy and will also be provided dorms.
Students will be able to walk the same streets of the art masters and study the great works of art of Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer, Caravaggio and many others.
“The Arts Academy is very interested in our Christ-centered mission here at Campbellsville University. This is a wonderful opportunity to build a relationship with the Florence Classical Arts Academy in the visual arts,” William Morse, chair of arts and design and associate professor of art, said.
William Morse will work with the administration at the Florence Classical Arts Academy and Taren Morse will teach the Drawing III course. However, one of the Florence Classical Arts Academy faculty will give a workshop twice throughout the week on construction and the human anatomy.
“The students and faculty are very excited about this creative opportunity to study art in one of the most iconic cities in Italy.
“This is not a vacation for our students. This is a four-week intensive study studio course. Once completed, the students will receive three credit hours for the Drawing III course here at CU,” William Morse said.
The students that will be attending the trip are Eurico Guerreiro Da Costa Nunes, Shelbie Anne Stidham, Kara Beth Kelly, and Devin De’Tray Coleman.
