CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. –Campbellsville University’s Department of Art will host Azucena Trejo Williams’ senior exhibition, “Momma’s Gonna Buy,” Nov. 5-16 at the Pence-Chowning Art Gallery located at 205 University Drive, Campbellsville.

Trejo Williams’ Installation piece is a marriage of subjects related to infertility, family, nature and a response to gaps in her upbringing. Her pieces focus on influences- past and present to train herself to be a better mother than what she experienced by looking at the strong and caring mothers that are her guidance.

Trejo Williams said every piece of furniture, and the art gallery itself, has a connection to a mother she knows. “My dear friend brought her son home from the hospital to this house before it was a gallery. The rocking chairs were used by my friends, their mothers and some, even their grandmothers as they rocked their children.”

Trejo Williams has transformed the gallery space to show her journey in this transition and will be among the first installation exhibition at Campbellsville University. She has been conceptually working on this exhibition for over 6 years.

Trejo Williams is a post-baccalaureate student at Campbellsville University working on her teaching certification in Art (P-12). She graduated from the University of North Texas with a bachelor of arts in photojournalism. She was a photographer at the San Angelo (Texas) Standard-Times and Fort Wayne (Indiana) News- Sentinel, and was photo editor for the Killeen (Texas) Daily Herald newspapers including Fort Hood (Texas) News- Sentinel and Copperas Cove (Texas) Herald. She was a contributing editor to winning Newspaper of the Year by the Texas Association of Managing Editors (TXAPME) and received Honorable Mention in informative graphics design from TXAPME in 2006. She also worked at the Dallas Museum of Art as a docent, in the Education Department and Visitors’ Services.

Williams moved from Dallas to Campbellsville in 2010 with her husband, Dr. Shawn Williams, assistant professor of political science at CU.

Williams’ work has been published in newspapers from 1997 to 2006, and she received the Drawing Award for “Momento Mori” in the Student Juried Show at Campbellsville University in 2012.
