CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – “You are the future of tomorrow. Campbellsville University is proud of each and every one of you today,” Jason Roop, director of the Campbellsville University Virginia Ponser Flanagan Technology Training Center, said.
The Technology Training Center held its largest pinning ceremony on Oct. 27, honoring 206 graduates in the ceremony at the university’s Ransdell Chapel.
The Technology Training Center started in the winter of 2001 and held its first pinning ceremony in 2011. At least 14,000 students have come through the programs offered through the center.
“Technical education is the future,” Roop said. “As of today, we have over 500 students enrolled through the Technology Training Center programs.”
Roop said Campbellsville University is committed to provide technical education with a Christ-centered relationship.
Allied Health certificates are offered in Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy, Pharmacy Technician and Professional Coding. The Technology Training Center also provides certificates in Cosmetology, Barbering and Welding.
Christie Minor, director of allied health, introduced the 15 graduates from the Medical Billing and Coding program, the 42 graduates from the Phlebotomy program, the 74 from the Medical Assistant program and the three graduates from the Pharmacy Technician program.
The 15 graduates from the Medical and Billing Coding program were: Aderannia Price, Kandace Hodge, Kayla Underwood, Amber Winzeler, Ashley Lackey, Candace Benningfield, Christy Steele, Taylor Thompson, Chrissy Edwards, Christina Norris, Jaclyn Vaught, Maria Williams, Jenifer Teubert, Larissa Tomlin and Galen Reed Watson.

“Let your light shine and that you [graduates] become successful in all you do,” Nikki Edwards, cosmetology and barbering curriculum coordinator, said. Edwards presented the certificates to the Cosmetology and Barbering graduates.

Welding held its first pinning ceremony with Chris King, director of welding, presenting the Welding graduates. These graduates included: Jordan Barrass, Zachary Carman, Chris Coulter, Maurice Hayes, Jared Kidd, Noah Peyton, Joshua Satterly, David Valentine and Somerset — Brandon O’Neil.
In special memory of Tim Bland, who started the Barbering program in 2018, his parents, Doug and Ranae Bland, received their son’s Barbering certificate of completion.
“Timothy always had a smile and was always positive and was a very bright and smart young man,” Roop said. “Timothy loved Barbering and was good at it.”
Roop said Tim was in the program for a year, when Doug and Ranae Bland suffered the loss of their son. “Tim completed over 1,000 hours of his Barbering program. You need 1,500 hours, and Tim was so close to the finish line. Tonight, he crosses that finish line,” Roop said.
Chris King, welding director, presented the late Maurice Hayes’ family with a Campbellsville University memorial blanket and an “in memory of” certificate and frame from the Technology Training Center. The blanket was draped over a front row seat for him at graduation.
King told the audience about their time with Maurice in the welding program and how his loss had affected all who had known him.
Maurice graduated from the Harrodsburg welding program in December 2018 and died in January 2019.
