CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The next scheduled noon organ recital for the Campbellsville University School of Music is Tuesday, Feb. 21 from 12:20 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. in Ransdell Chapel at 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville, and will feature Shiloh Roby, associate director of music at Christ Church Cathedral in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Roby will play on the 1894 Farrand and Votey Pipe Organ that was enlarged and rebuilt by Moller, Pilcher and Milnar Organ Companies. It has three manuals, pedalboard and 51 ranks.
Dr. Wesley Roberts, professor of music, said the noon organ series is designed to “provide an opportunity for those in the community to hear outstanding organists and our prized instrument in short concert programs during their lunch break.”
Roby is a native of Staunton, Va. and studied organ with Stephen Cooksey and J. Thomas Mitts and percussion with Eugenia Burkett at Shenandoah University. He holds dual bachelor degrees in music and business and graduated magna cum laude.
He also holds a master’s degree from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, where he studied music theory with Kip Wile and Thomas Benjamin. He also studied organ with Donald Sutherland and held one of the two fellowships in ear training.
In 2007, he served as organ scholar at Truro Cathedral in Cornwall in the United Kingdom. After this, he served as organ scholar at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the national cathedral of Ireland, for a year.
Roby returned to the United States in 2009 to accept a position as director of music at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Holliston, Mass. He then moved to Cincinnati in December 2010 to join the cathedral staff of Christ Church.
Faculty, students and the public are welcome to attend the recital.
