CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.—Three Campbellsville University students placed at the Kentucky State Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) competition this semester at Northern Kentucky University.
PBL is the college-level division of Future Business Leaders of America– Phi Beta Lambda.
Celeste Presley, a sophomore of Georgetown, Ky., won first place in the Public Speaking competition. “I really enjoyed attending the state PBL competition. It is exciting to take part in one of the oldest and biggest college-level student business clubs,” said Presley.
Katherine Ames, a senior of Elizabethtown, Ky., competed in the Accounting Analysis and Decision Making competition and won third place. “”The competition was a great experience,” said Ames. “I had never competed before and it was very rewarding to win. I felt prepared because of the classes I had taken with my accounting professors, and I was proud to represent Campbellsville University and the School of Business.”
Deanna Mulhall, a senior of Louisville, Ky., competed in the Management Concepts portion, and won third. “The competition was exhilarating. The test was difficult, but I remember my teachers teaching me most of it before. It paid off having good teachers because I came in third place and I was so excited,” said Mulhall.
“I am so proud of our girls. They did a good job,” said Davaajargal Dorjsuren, the international business coordinator at CU. Dorjsuren is CU’s PBL chapter adviser, who accompanied the students to the competition. “I think the conference gives our students not only the chance to compete in their field of studies but also to network and attend professional workshops to further their future careers.”
Because Presley placed first in the Public Speaking portion, she will attend the National PBL conference in the summer. “I know there will be a lot of great opportunities there to learn and grow, and I’m eager to bring back what I learn to make a stronger club next year,” said Presley.
PBL is the largest student-run organization in the United States, and one of the largest business-related organizations in the world.
