CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University will hold the Annual Juried Student Art Competition in the University Art Gallery from April 11 to May 6. The Art Gallery is located at 205 University Drive, Campbellsville.
The event is free and open to the public.
This will be the 30th year of operation for the Annual Spring Juried Student Art Competition. The event showcases the best CU student work created in the past calendar year. The varieties of work on display include: drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture and 3-D design. Any CU student can enter; the exhibit is not limited to art majors only.
Entries for the competition must be exceptional and go through an assessment by the professors in the art department.
“Linda Cundiff is teaching her 2-D students how to matte and frame their work. I am advising the 3-D students how toproperly prepare their work for exhibition,” Davie Reneau, assistant professor of art at Campbellsville University, said.
Cundiff, chair of the Art Development, and Reneau hope that many CU students will go see their peer’s art pieces and that the very best work done in the Art Department will be shared with the university and the community.
Reneau also said the experience each student will gain in preparing his or her work professionally for the exhibit will be valuable in their futures.
“They need to learn these things while they are here so that they can continue to exhibit professionally later in their careers,” Reneau said.
“The fact that the show is juried and not all work will be accepted is also significant. When you put your work out in the world, rejection is a fact of life sometimes. Accepting the fact that the work could be better and working toward that is the kind of maturity we want our students to have when they leave us.”
Awards in the form of art supplies are given to the winners in several categories of media.
