CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The time for fall-related fun is back again with Campbellsville University’s Homecoming festivities right around the corner.
This year the Homecoming festival is adding even more to the fun with the added attraction of caricature portraits.
Coming all the way from Texas, Andy Cundiff, artist, musician and CU alumnus, will draw caricatures at the registration tent of the Homecoming Festival on Stapp Lawn and at the Car Show from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9.
“This new addition to the festival came out of one of my first Home- coming committee meetings when I asked the members to think of ways we can improve Homecoming and add more activities during the festival,” Ashley Fox, director of alumni relations, said.
Donations of $10 per caricature are encouraged. At the request of Cundiff, all proceeds will go to a CU scholarship fund in the name of Tommy Clark, former art professor at CU, former prelim artist for Campbellsville Industries and an important figure in Cundiff’s life.
“I more or less learned how to do preliminary sketches of buildings from Tommy Clark,” Cundiff said. “He was always a great mentor.”
Cundiff attended Campbellsville College from 1980 until 1983 before he began designing at Campbellsville Industries alongside Clark.
“I give a lot of credit to Campbellsville,” he said. “The learning that took place in that part of my life was indispensable.”
During their time working together, Clark taught Cundiff the art of drawing caricatures.
“It wasn’t a class or even an assignment. It was just one of those things he liked to bless us with,” Cundiff said.
Cundiff accompanied Clark, drawing caricatures at several festivals such as Ham Days in Lebanon and St. James Court in Louisville.
Cundiff enjoys doing freelance and studio artwork, as well as working with Texas- based magazines.
