TITLE: Creative Designer

LOCATION: Longview, TX

REPORTS TO: Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications

 

SCHEDULE: Office hours are primarily weekdays 8AM – 5PM, but responsibilities could occasionally require additional hours and flexibility that can include evenings and weekends.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the university’s Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications, this position will work with the University Marketing & Communications team and campus partners to produce, refine, and enhance creative projects for the university. This position is primarily responsible for the production of graphic design projects in service to the visual communication of the LeTourneau University brand. Some photography, as well as visual social media and web content and design, will also be a part of the responsibilities for this position.

 

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

  • Designs and produces for print and online publications and other visual media products, such as flyers, brochures, invitations, postcards, advertising, newsletters, magazines and displays that support the priorities of University Marketing and Communications and other university offices.
  • Works with the Associate Vice President for Marketing & Communications to develop and maintain  concepts for environmental design, such as wayfinding, campus banners, digital signage and event promotional materials.
  • Collaborates with the AVP and content team to design and lay out the semiannual constituency publication for the university, NOW Magazine.
  • Helps to support the University Marketing and Communications team through the production of graphics for all digital mediums, including the university website and social media platforms. Works with the AVP, content team, and Assistant Director for Online and Data Marketing in keeping the university website up-to-date and graphically appealing. Conducts periodic website audits to ensure visual engagement of content.
  • As needed, provides photo coverage at university events and helps to maintain the university’s archive of digital images for use in a variety of marketing and publicity materials.
  • Collaborates with other University Marketing & Communications team members to maintain consistent and effective brand messaging across all platforms and mediums.
  • Provides creative ideas and suggestions to aid Marketing & Communications team efforts.
  • Works with printing and production companies to deliver design projects to press, provide quality control, and ensure materials are received in timely manner.
  • Provides occasional graphics assistance and creative contributions to the in-house videography team.
  • Maintains organization and presentation of creative assets, design projects, and creative materials.
  • Utilizes UI/UX design skills to create presentations and design data visualization materials.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficiency with the Adobe Suite of Programs: InDesign, Photoshop & Illustrator
  • Knowledge in Desktop publishing and typesetting
  • Strong portfolio with demonstrated examples of creating solution-driven designs
  • Basic Photography Skills
  • Comfortable in a mac environment
  • Experience with HTML & CSS Experience preferred

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Associate’s degree in graphic design or related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.

A robust portfolio and extensive knowledge and proficiency utilizing the latest software packages including the Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office products, photo editing applications, and layout tools. An understanding of the printing process and the requirements to send projects to the four-color press are necessary.

Though not required, any Web programming ability is considered a great benefit to this position. In addition, creative writing ability with some understanding of basic marketing will also benefit the ideal candidate.

Demonstrated excellence in graphic design, photography, and a high degree of innovation through the professional portfolio; excellent in analytical thinking and creative problem-solving skills for visual information design; strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills; the ability to function as a part of a multidisciplinary team; the stamina to produce high-quality graphics in a fast-paced work environment; proficiency with state-of-the-art software to produce accurate and innovative graphic design multimedia projects; and the ability to quickly learn and integrate new tools and technologies to meet customer needs.
