CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University’s Department of Art and Design Graduating Seniors will exhibit in The Pence-Chowning Art Gallery until April 8. Each student will have a week-long solo exhibition with reception, as a requirement for their Senior Seminar capstone course.
Hunter Sallee of Elkhorn, Ky. is to begin the exhibition season; his exhibit lasting until Feb. 25, with a reception on Friday, Feb. 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. The reception is in The Pence-Chowning Art Gallery located at 205 University Drive, Campbellsville, Ky.
Sallee focuses on both digital artmaking and traditional arts including drawing, painting and printmaking. Much of his digital work consists of logos and advertisements for various companies. His interests also include design for the music and retail industries.
Sallee will graduate in May 2022 with an art area degree with an emphasis in graphic design and a minor in business administration. He plans to continue his work as a graphic designer and do freelance graphic work.
“My work is often related to my own interests and are inspired by various emotions and circumstances that I am experiencing in the moment of creation,” Sallee said in his artist statement. “Artmaking is an escape, a time where I can let the creative take over.
“Often when I am creating, I enjoy listening to music. I feel that my connection with the various types of music I listen to while making art enhances the work that I am producing. I use art as a tool to convey emotions and messages that words cannot describe.
“When I look at my work, I can picture the time and emotions I felt while I was creating and hope that the viewer can find some emotional value as well. I don’t necessarily believe that the viewer should feel the same way about the artwork that I do, rather have their own connections based on their point of view.”
Sallee has experience in various art forms such as drawing, painting and printmaking, as well as digital artmaking, using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
“I use digital artforms mainly for advertisements, logos and business-related projects, often for clients,” he said.
“As for my digital art, I hope to convey the message that my clients are looking to display. I want them to be as happy with the work as I am, often happier. I try to put myself in their shoes each time I make work for a client, so that I can produce the most authentic work possible.
“I strive for my works to be authentic. I hope to connect my digital work with my love for music, as well, and to transition into artwork and promotions for the music industry.”
Scheduled to exhibit throughout the semester are students Germaine Dunn, a senior from Campbellsville, Ky.; Shane Dick, a senior from Russell Springs, Ky.; Ayreal Allen, a senior from Campbellsville, Ky.; April Webb, a senior from Magnolia, Ky.; and Anna Webb, a senior from Magnolia, Ky.
