CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Russell A. Thompson of Campbellsville, Ky., has been employed as assistant director of bands and instructor in music at Campbellsville University, according to an announcement from Dr. Michael V. Carter, president of Campbellsville University.
Thompson received his bachelor of music in music education from the University of North Alabama in 2005. He studied at Auburn University, receiving his master of education in music education in 2008. He also received a master of music in instrumental conducting in 2012 from Georgia State University.
He is a 1999 graduate of Coffee High School.
He has been a member of the Alabama Music Educators Association, Alabama Band Directors Association, Georgia Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Educators (MENC), National Band Association, and College Music Society.
Thompson has served at Lauderdale County High School in Rogersville, Ala., as band director. He has also served as a graduate assistant with Auburn University bands, graduate assistant at Georgia State University, and as director of bands at Duluth High School in Duluth, Ga.
He is the son of Wayne and Pat Thompson of Florence, Ala. Thompson is the husband of Brooke Hester Thompson. They have two children, Makayla and Nicholas.
