CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University graduate student Lyudmyla Ivanyuk from the Ukraine will be presenting at the 2011 INTESOL Conference in Indianapolis, Ind. Saturday, Nov. 19.

INTESOL stands for Indiana Affiliate of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages and is an all-volunteer group comprised of teachers, professors, administrators and University students.
The theme for this year’s conference is “Learners and Leaders in Times of Change.”
Dr. DeWayne Frazier, associate vice president for academic affairs, said “Campbellsville University continues to provide high quality graduate programs across various disciplines. The MA degree in TESOL program provides a wide arrange of opportunities for the students to not only conduct independent research, but also to experiment with creative teaching methods in the classroom. Lyudmila has had the opportunity to implement creative pedagogies based on her research and class work.”
In the proposal Ivanyuk sent for the opportunity to present, she said, “Learning to write paragraphs that meet American University standards is a daunting task for many international students. Research shows that one of the reasons why students write poorly in terms of content and organization is their lack of practice in generating ideas and verbalizing their thoughts in English.”
Ivanyuk’s presentation is titled, “A Self-Questioning Strategy to Guide Paragraph Writing: The ESL Experience.” She plans to lead the participants through steps of the self-questioning strategy to guide paragraph writing, explain the stages in which it may be taught, share examples of paragraphs of students before and after applying the strategy and observe the outcomes during her presentation.
Frazier also said, “Lyudmyla originally comes from the Ukraine and is one of the many talented international students CU experiences on campus. The strength of the CU programs are found in the faculty and the students. This is evident in Lyudmyla, by being selected to present at such a prestigious conference.”
