CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University is sponsoring a conference titled “Contagious Churches and Leaders” May 16-19 at the Louisville Education Center, 2300 Greene Way, Louisville, Ky.
The event, for church leaders, seeks those who want to improve the church to be relevant in a diverse and polarized society. The conference will also answer the question of how the gospel can be communicated to a generation that speaks a different language and places importance on a different set of values.
Those attending the conference will hear Dr. Leonard Sweet, the E. Stanley Jones Professor of Evangelism at Drew University in Madison, N.J., and a Visiting Distinguished Professor at George Fox University in Portland, Ore.
He will discuss post-modern communications.
James Woolums, director of the Louisville Education Center and assistant professor of Christian studies, said, “This is the third year Campbellsville University has offered a combination class and conference to help equip and train pastors to be learn more about helping your church grow. This year’s emphasis is on how the church can use technology, social networking and more appealing worship styles to engage today’s generation with the gospel.”
He said the desire is to bring in a national speaker each year, and he is pleased with Sweet who is leading the conference.
Among other leaders from across Kentucky who will lead sessions are: Dr. Steve Ayers, pastor at Hillvue Heights Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Ky.; Dr. Jeff Eaton, pastor at Hope Community Church in Lawrenceburg, Ky.;
Dr. Kevin Cosby, pastor of St. Stephen Church, Louisville, and president of Simmons College of Kentucky; Jon Weece, lead follower, Southland Christian Church, Lexington, Ky.; and Dr. Shane Garrison, assistant professor of educational ministries, at Campbellsville University in the School of Theology.
Woolums said these pastors will provide “additional perspective from a variety of viewpoints. We expect a great crowd of entire church staffs to attend this event to hear Len on Monday and Tuesday and some of the above mentioned leaders speaking on Wednesday and Thursday.”
College credit (graduate or undergraduate) for this conference can be earned through Campbellsville University, but registration must be completed prior to the conference.
Fees include $39 for a half conference if received by April 13 (either Monday/Tuesday or Wednesday/Thursday) with $69 after April 13; or $69 for full conference received by April 13 and $99 after April 13.
