CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.— Victory Media, the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life, has named Campbellsville University to the coveted Military Friendly Schools® list. The 2013 Military Friendly Schools® list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.
“Inclusion on the 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools® shows Campbellsville University’s commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students,” said Sean Collins, director for G.I. Jobs and vice president at Victory Media.
“As interest in education grows we’re thrilled to provide the military community with transparent, world-class resources to assist in their search for schools,” Collins said.
The Military Friendly Schools® media and website, found at www.militaryfriendlyschools.com, feature the list, interactive tools and search functionality to help military students find the best school to suit their unique needs and preferences.
The 1,739 colleges, universities and trade schools on this year’s list exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience.
“Campbellsville University is very pleased to once again be named among the 15 percent of higher education institutions in the nation to be named as a Military Friendly School,” Dr. Michael V. Carter, president of Campbellsville University, said.
“For four consecutive years, CU has received this designation as an indication of our commitment to serving the educational needs of our military veterans.
“CU has an active student group comprised of veterans now enrolled in a variety of academic programs, and we are constantly assessing ways that we can better serve this growing student population. We appreciate the service of these men and women to our nation and are appreciative of this recognition of being a university that is militarily friendly.”
Dr. Roscoe Bowen, associate professor of exercise science, is faculty adviser for Semper Paratus Servire, Campbellsville University’s newly established veterans club. The club is a service organization whose members aim to help veterans transition from military service to academic life.
“The members of Semper Paratus Servire veterans club of Campbellsville University are appreciative of the university’s ongoing efforts to provide a positive and welcoming environment for all veterans,” Bowen said.
“Making the transition from warrior to learner is challenging and the university’s efforts to provide financial, personal and structural support can make a difference in the success of veteran learners. The members of Semper Paratus Servire are glad to partner with Campbellsville University to reach the veteran population on campus and serve their needs.”
Campbellsville University and Western Kentucky University partnered to provide a Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) at Campbellsville University in 2006.
Students can earn a ROTC leadership studies minor from CU. The program is under the Porter-Bouvette School of Business and Economics at CU.
ROTC prepares students for responsibilities as “commissioned” officers in the active Army, Army Reserve or Amy National Guard following graduation.
Students attend WKU for one day each week, and CU provides transportation to Western. The rest of the student’s studies will be on the campus of Campbellsville University.
Now in its fourth year, the 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools® was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 12,000 VA-approved schools nationwide. Ernst and Young LLP independently verified the survey tabulation process, methodology and weightings that comprise the 2013 list.
Each year schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria and weightings developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board (AAB) consisting of educators from schools across the country.
A full story and detailed list of 2013 Military Friendly Schools® will be highlighted in the annual G.I. Jobs Guide to Military Friendly Schools®, distributed in print and digital format to hundreds of thousands of active and former military personnel in early October.
