CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.— Dr. Joel Drinkard, senior scholar and professor of Old Testament and Hebrew at Campbellsville University, will deliver a lecture on the English Bible, Thursday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. in Campbellsville University’s Montgomery Library, located at 116 University Drive, Campbellsville.
This is the final event in a series of programs observing the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible’s publication.
Drinkard will make use of Biblical material on exhibit in the library to discuss the development of the English Bible up to the publication of the King James Bible in 1611.
The exhibit of English and non-English Bibles is on display in CU’s Montgomery Library from now until November 15.
Included in the exhibit are fragments of editions dating from 1247 to 1611, when the King James Bible was first published. Materials on display include: a leaf, Latin Bible, Paris, France, 1247; a leaf, Latin Bible, Venice, 1483; a leaf, Coverdale Latin-English, 1538; Matthew’s Version, 1549; Beza, Greek and Latin, 1565, Henricus Stephanus; a leaf, Bishop’s Bible, first edition, 1568; Geneva Bible, 1599; a Jewish scroll, part of the book of Esther, between 200 and 300 years old; Bishop’s Bible, 1591; a leaf, Great Bible, 1540; a leaf, Greek-German-Latin Bible, 1596; Bishops-Rheims Parallel Bible, 1601; a leaf, King James Psalter, 1612; and a leaf, King James Bible, 1611, first edition.
Drinkard teaches online theology courses for CU’s Louisville Education Center.
