Responsibilities:
The Director of Schools will be charged by the Superintendent to perform the following duties to support the success and growth of the district:
- Assist the superintendent in communicating and implementing the mission and vision of the district
- Effectively work with the Superintendent to develop and monitor district policy and administrative regulations related to
- Student Growth and Achievement
- Organizational Leadership
- District Operations
- Facilities
- Communication and Community Relations
- Directly supervise and support the principals at all schools ensuring principals meet their achievement goals and improve their instructional practice as well as assisting in setting continuous improvement goals for each school
- Work appropriately within the role of an instructional leader, while providing clear direction for teachers and administrators regarding curricular decisions
- Develop and implement district level plans in collaboration with district and school level leadership
- Support the work of the district directors to ensure priorities and initiatives are in alignment with a clearly defined and well-articulated vision for the district through district and building action plans
- Collaborate with district directors to develop contingency plans designed to address anticipated and unanticipated budgetary necessities; especially as related to pupil services
- Work in collaboration with the Director of Human Resources to effectively monitor all aspects of the staffing with the ever changing needs of the district and provide mentorship to new employees
- Collaborate with the director of facilities and maintenance teams to ensure clean and well-maintained schools, facilities, and grounds
- Collaborate with the district’s safety and law enforcement officers to ensure a safe a secure learning and working environment for students and staff
- Conduct district and school level leadership meetings, trainings, and work sessions
- Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws/regulations and provide professional development to administrative teams
- Maintain a regular presence in district buildings and at district events for the purpose of monitoring effectiveness of programming and improvement plans
- Continuously monitor professional and personal effectiveness within the role of Director of Schools, seeking out and participating in professional development activities in alignment with areas identified for improvement by the Superintendent and through self-reflection
Qualifications
The successful Director of Schools candidate will have the following leadership skills, certifications, and experience:
- Superintendency certification
- At least 5+ years successful experience in school and district level administration
- A track record of assembling effective teams, strategic planning, communicating a vision and setting priorities, managing team execution, delegating, mentoring others and developing emerging leaders
- A results-oriented, goal-driven, team approach to work
- Ability to develop and train principals and grow teacher leaders
- Ability to analyze data to quickly discern the needs and focus of a school campus
- Strong instructional experience and confidence to lead instruction
- Skills to foster cross school collaboration and unity
- Strong communication (verbal, written, technological) skills a must
- Ability to think strategically and manage with whole function of the district in mind
- Demonstrated skills in identifying, analyzing, and resolving problems that impact the district
