CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University will hold a faculty colloquium titled “Being All You Can Be: Gendered Expectations and Gendered Price tags” on Thursday, Oct. 6 given by Dr. Susan Howell, professor of psychology, in room 15 of the Administration Building at 104 University Drive, Campbellsville.

The public is invited to attend this free event, which will be from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Howell said, “We often tell our students, sons, and daughters ‘You can be anything you want to be!’ Research, however, suggests that we also communicate, in subtle ways,different expectations for the success of our sons and daughters and attach a not so subtle price tag to achievement in our daughters.”
She said, “This presentation will explore how we can effectively communicate to our students and children, males and females, that they can succeed and equalize the cost of success for each.”
She received her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Campbellsville College in 1982 and both her Master of Education degree from 1988 and her Doctorate in Education in 1995 from the University of Louisville.
She has been published in The Journal of Divorce and Remarriage, The American Journal of Orthopsychiatry and The Journal for Specialists in Group Work.
Howell is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Christian Association for Psychological Studies and the Christians for Biblical Equality.
Howell has been employed at CU since 1994.
She is the wife of Dr. Dwayne Howell, who also serves at CU as professor of Old Testament and Hebrew. They have two children: Patrick and Katelyn.
