CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – In 1847, Emily Brontë published her first and only novel, “Wuthering Heights,” considered a literary classic more than 170 years after its release.
“Wuthering Heights,” which depicts an orphaned boy’s failed quest for love, will be broadcast as a radio drama at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30 on WCKQ (Q 104.1).
Presented by Campbellsville University’s Department of Theatre and Dance, Town Hall Productions and Taylor County Bank, “Wuthering Heights” tells the story of Heathcliff, an orphaned gypsy boy, who is adopted by the wealthy Earnshaw family and moves into their estate, Wuthering Heights.
Soon thereafter, Heathcliff falls for his foster sister, Cathy, who responds in kind until, due to social convention, she marries Edgar Linton, a man of means.
“Heathcliff vows to win her back, while Cathy’s ne’er-do-well alcoholic brother wishes to ruin their lives,” the play’s synopsis said.
