Investigative MMJ, WHAS 11 – Louisville, KY

WHAS, the TEGNA-owned ABC affiliate in Louisville, KY is seeking an experienced journalist with an investigative focus to join our WHAS11 News Team. It’s the city that hosts the Kentucky Derby, the Bourbon trail, and often March Madness.

It’s also a big news city, with a strong culture of local journalism. We produce both short-term and long-term investigations, including documentaries. Our FOCUS investigative team is committed to hard-hitting impactful journalism, that leads to change.

We are looking for a journalist ready to tackle any story, develop and maintain critical sources and break news.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and produce investigative stories for all broadcast and digital platforms
  • Assist with breaking news when necessary, including producing investigative angles to developing stories
  • Advanced understanding of the concepts of journalistic ethics and media law, including fair use and public records
  • Meet deadlines for critical legal review
  • Active social and digital presence

Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of experience as MMJ
  • Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism or similar field a plus
  • Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems
  • Travel: Occasionally: 10-25%
  • Work Environment Set: Outdoors: performed in various outdoor environmental conditions
  • Physical Demands Set: Light work: Involves sitting most of the time, walking, lifting, bending, standing, etc.
