CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.—The Kentucky Council on Archives will be hosting their annual fall meeting on Friday, Oct. 5 at Campbellsville University in the Banquet Hall of the Badgett Academic Support Center, located at 110 University Drive, Campbellsville.
“The program is formed around two functions of archival work,” Dr. Glen Taul, archivist at Campbellsville University, said, “There will be a panel discussion about the uses of archives from the perspective of people who use archives the most—archaeologists, genealogists, historians and film makers, and about making archives more accessible to the public.”
Doors open and registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The event begins at 9 a.m. with the Filson’s Historical Society’s Sarah-Jane Poindexter, who serves as chair of the Kentucky Council on Archives.
“The Kentucky Council on Archives is the professional organization for archivists in Kentucky. Members represent academic, historical, governmental, corporate and private organizations,” Taul said, “KCA advocates the importance of archives in society, promotes their use and provides professional training opportunities.”
Taul said panel discussion topics include “digitization and National History Day, which involved elementary and high school students and archives in the junior high classroom.” The archivists will also discuss current projects they are working on to make Kentucky archives more accessible to various users.
One of the featured speakers include the assistant archivist from the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Ky., Anna Powell. She will speak on outreaching to junior high students in regards to history.
Taul will give attendees a tour of Campbellsville University’s archives.
