Campbellsville is the Best of the Bluegrass!
The theme of Campbellsville University’s 2016 Homecoming is “Best of the Bluegrass.” There will be activities for all ages to enjoy from the car cruise to the play “Little Women: The Musical” performed by the CU theater department, and much more.
The Homecoming festivities will begin on Thursday, Oct. 13 and continue through Saturday, Oct. 15 with the last performance of “Little Women” on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 2:30 p.m. Most of the festivities will take place on Friday and Saturday. Other times for “Little Women: The Musical” are Thursday, Oct. 13 and Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m., and the Friday, Oct. 14 show will be performed at 8 p.m.
The class of 1956 will have its 60th class reunion with a free meal at 5:30 p.m. in the Chowing Executive Dining Hall on Thursday, Oct. 13.
The legendary Bluegrass artist, Ricky Skaggs with Kentucky Thunder will be performing in the Ransdell Chapel on Oct. 13 at 8 p.m.
The class of 1966 will have a Meet and Greet at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 14. Lunch will be served by Pioneer College Caterers Inc. All Golden Heritage Club members are invited to attend. At 2 p.m. there will be an induction ceremony for the class of 1966 held in honor of its 50th year class reunion.
The Homecoming Reception will be at 6 p.m. in the Banquet Hall of the Badgett Academic Support Center. Purchase of a ticket includes admission to the University Theater’s production of “Little Women: The Musical.”
At 9 p.m. the Maroon Goons will hold a pep rally to cheer on the Tigers. The pep rally will take place behind the Student Activities Center.
Saturday, Oct. 15 will be full of activities for all ages with plenty of school-spirited events. To start the day, Market Off Main will begin at 8 a.m. and lasts until 2 p.m. Local vendors will be set up with everything from art to homegrown produce and located one block off Main Street in downtown Campbellsville.
There will be a Homecoming Breakfast starting at 8:30 a.m. and lasting until 11 a.m. in Winters Dining Hall. Music will be provided by the Exie Boys.
A car cruise, with motorcycles welcome, will take place with registration from 9 a.m. until noon. If you would like to participate, contact Stan McKinney at (270) 789-5035 or (270) 789-1860.
There is no entry fee and 75 custom diecast cars will be given away. The cars have the Homecoming logo on one side and the University logo including “one of a series of 11” on the other side.
Students are encouraged to enter their vehicles.
Those who participate in the parade and the cruise will be eligible for a drawing for $100.
Many activities begin at 10 a.m. such as the Alumni Softball Game at Veterans Park, the Chowning Art Shop Artist Exhibition at the Turner Log Cabin, the Alumni Art Exhibit by Eric Hurtgen (’99) at the Pence-Chowning Art Gallery and the Chowning Art Shop will be open. The art events take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Dr. Ronnie Smith, former tennis coach and music professor, from Texas, and former player Ken DeHart, will be present for a reunion from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. in room 209 of Hawkins Athletic Center.
Alumni who lived in the Lebanon House will also get together for a reunion from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Chowning Executive Dining Room in Winters Dining Hall.

The Homecoming Parade will begin at 10 a.m. in downtown Campbellsville at Jackson Towers. Be sure to find a spot and cheer for the Tigers as the Tiger Marching Band, club floats and classic cars cruise by.
The men’s wrestling team will have a clinic for youth and high school students from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Wrestling Gym. There will also be Maroon/Grey Ranking Matches at 2 p.m. to see who wins the varsity spots, and the Alumni Match, a team of alumni wrestlers vs. current wrestlers after that, at around 3 p.m. Franky James, head men’s wrestling coach, said they plan to have about 20-30 alumni at Homecoming. The alumni reunion will be in the Wrestling Gym after the other activities.
The Homecoming festival will begin at 10:30 a.m. and last until 2 p.m. There will be new attractions this year including, Tiny Tallman the stilt walker and balloon artist. There will also be a 45-foot inflatable obstacle course, bounce house and a climbing wall.
Information about Campbellsville University clubs and organizations will be provided, and you can have your face painted.
Be sure to stop by the photo booth and have your picture made. The AirEvac team will also land their helicopter on the field across from North Hall following the parade.
Lunch on the Lawn will begin at 11:30 a.m. This year, Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken and Pioneer College Caterers Inc. will have two options of food. Pioneer College Caterers Inc. will offer BBQ and Lee’s will offer their famous chicken and fixings, each for $5.
The international student showcase will begin at 12:30 p.m. on the Books n Beans Patio.
At 1:45 p.m. make your way over to Finley Stadium to watch the Alumni Band perform My Old Kentucky Home and the CU Fight Song.
The Fighting Tigers play Bethel University at 2 p.m. for the 2016 Homecoming Football Game. A new tradition will be started with the delivery of the game ball at mid-field by a Fighting Tiger football alumnus.
The Homecoming court ceremony will be held at halftime.
The 1991 Tiger Marching Band members and all Fighting Tiger Football Alumni will be recognized during the game. This is the 25th year of the Marching Band, and band members will be wearing new uniforms.
At 6 p.m. there will be a Downtown Gala on Main Street. At 6:30 p.m. the Lady Tiger Soccer team takes on Shawnee State and the Men’s Tiger Soccer plays at 9 p.m., both at Citizens Bank and Trust Field at Finley Stadium.
