CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.— A total of 46 Campbellsville University students and staff members will serve on five different mission teams during spring break in various parts of the United States including New Orleans, New York City, Michigan and two in Florida.
Campbellsville University’s spring break is March 6-10.
In New Orleans, the team will partner with Dave and Jen Collie and their mission community called Communitas. Previously, the couple served at Campbellsville Baptist Church.
The team will work in homeless shelters, help in small construction work jobs and spend time in prayer walks and other relational ministry, according to Creason.
Trent Creason, team leader, campus ministries intern at CU and youth minister at Lowell Avenue Baptist Church, said, “Communitas has an approach where a group of believers will move into a community to intentionally and consistently reach out to those they live near, and be a tangible expression of the Gospel.”
The team going to New York City will teach English as a Second Language and hope to open up opportunities to share the Gospel.
Seth Pierce, team leader for the trip to Michigan and a senior at CU, said the team will partner with Friendship Baptist Church in Dearborn, Mich., and also work with the Arab-American Friendship Center. The team will help teach English as a Second Language to Middle Eastern immigrants.
“The goal is to spread the Gospel through ESL,” Pierce said, who also went on the trip last year. “Last year we witnessed several immigrants responding to the call of Jesus Christ.”
One trip to Panama City, Fla. is working with Beach Reach. Students from across the country will meet to minister to 100,000 students on spring break. Pancake breakfasts are served each morning, and rides are given at night to those who aren’t safe to drive.
A second team traveling to Florida is primarily made up of members of Campbellsville University’s football team. This team will travel to Central Florida to play softball with prison inmates, and will work one day in the Orlando Union Rescue Mission, a homeless shelter for men in downtown Orlando, Fla.
