CAMPBELLSVILLE – In its second annual event, Campbellsville University’s Advancement Board raised money through a Derby Hat Preview and Sale held at the home of Betty and Chester Porter in Mount Washington, Ky., March 31. The Derby Hat Preview and Sale event is a precursor to the Derby Rose Gala at CU with all proceeds from both going to the scholarship fund.

Gwinn Hahn, chair of this year’s Derby Rose Gala, said, “We’re grateful to the host and hostess CU alumni Betty and Chester Porter for opening their home for this second Derby Hat Preview and Sale. Their generosity enriches our scholarship effort.” Betty and Dr. J. Chester, both of whom are graduates of Campbellsville University, have committed themselves to Christian higher education for multiple years in leadership on the Board of Trustees and as major donors to CU over the past 25 years.
Hat designer Glenda Patterson (’69) of GL Patterson Designs, Elizabethtown, donated 30 percent of the hat sales and orders toward the Scholarship Fund. Orders are still being taken from this year’s event. She has created two unique designs for the annual gala silent auction.
Two CU freshmen who work in the Office of Development attended and helped the staff in support of the Advancement Board’s special event, Rebecca J. Nehring from Wiliamstown, Ky., and Samantha Ross from Liberty, Ky. Presidential Ambassador Rachel Hines also helped this year and is a CU junior from Bethelridge, Ky.
