Job Summary: Plans, implements, coordinates, and supervises an assigned group of children and youth; promotes quality of programs and safety of campers at all times; provides guidance and role modeling to campers; promotes and stimulates camper participation; coordinates and leads campers through their daily schedule ensuring punctuality and responsibility; supervises campers during unscheduled program time and evenings; ensures compliance with camp rules and regulations at all times.
Essential Functions
- Supervises and organizes an assigned group of campers during scheduled activities and unscheduled blocks of time in cooperation with camp rules and regulations.
- Promotes and stimulates participation of campers to ensure a pleasant camp experience.
- Supervises cabin clean up and work details.
- Coordinates and leads youth through their daily schedule ensuring punctuality and responsibility.
- Lives w/ group of campers & help campers adjust/get to know other campers & camp life.
- Interprets & maintains camper compliance with camp rules & of the camp safety & health regulations.
- Assists with program activities, other activities as assigned working closely w/ the program staff.

- Knowledge of the principles & practices of child & youth behavior & development.
- Knowledge of the principles & practices of First Aid & C.P.R & ability to ensure the safety of campers & other staff.
- Ability to plan, develop, facilitate, & supervise children & youth programs & activities.
- Ability to build & maintain effective mentor relationships with children & youth.
- Ability to communicate effectively with campers & camp staff.
- Ability to plan, develop, & implement effective childhood & youth programs & activities.
- Ability to communicate & work with groups participating (age & skill levels) & provide necessary instruction to campers & staff.
- Ability to observe camper & staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations &emergency procedures, & apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
- Visual & auditory ability to identify & respond to environmental & other hazards related to the activity.
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) & possess strength & endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to read, write, & communicate the English language.
Education & Experience
- Six months experience teaching child development or youth programs in a church preferred,
- Or any equivalent combination of training & experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, & abilities.
Certifications
- CPR & First Aid Certification
- Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
- Some physical requirements of the Camp Counselor position could be endurance including climbing, st&ing, some
- bending, stooping, & stretching. Eye-h& coordination & manual dexterity to manipulate activities are required.
- Requires normal range of hearing & eyesight to record, prepare, & communicate appropriate camper
- activities/programs & the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting & work irregular
- hours delivering a program in the facility available. Operate with daily exposure to the sun & heat & varying environmental conditions.
