The Unit Secretary performs clerical, reception, and coordination of tasks to facilitate smooth functioning of the Inpatient Unit. Receives and directs visitors on the Inpatient Unit, and communicates in a professional and positive manner with patients, family, team members, hospital staff and physicians.
SERVICE ORIENTATION: Stives to meet or exceed expectation in the delivery of services, care and pain/symptom management; contributes to enchancing the quality of the work environment.
  1. Performs reception duties on the Inpatient Unit (greets visitors, answers phone and answers patient call lights).
  2. Registers and discharges patients in the Norton Healthcare computer system and Suncoast.
  3. Processes admissions and discharges according to Inpatient Unit procedures.
  4. Transcribes physician orders and enters them into the computer accurately and in a timely manner.Handwritten MD scripts mailed to appropriate parties when applicable.
  5. Keeps medical record up to date.
  6. Makes status changes in patient records according to policy.
  7. Maintains/Administers bereaved status changes in Suncoast.
  8. Ensures telephone and call lights are answered promptly and in a professional manner
TEAMWORK: Effectively works with other members of the team, drawing on all resources to achieve common goals or solve a problem. Promotes teamwork as a way to generate positive and creative results.
  1. Demonstrates collaborative and collegial relationships with the IDT, Admissions Team and other staff to assure coordination in delivery of care.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT:Manages resources such as time, expenses, supplies, labor etc.
  1. Maintains supplies needed at nurses station.
  2. Performs chart audit at discharge and keeps the Registered Nurse and Medical Records Department updated on missing elements.
  3. Provides authorization for equipment and services used on the Inpatient Unit.
OUTREACH: Educates the community about the services provided by Hosparus and its Athome Support. Actively promotes Hosparus and the Athome support’s mission with patients and families, communities and referral sources’ offer care that fits the diverse need of the community.
  1. Works with Hosparus Inpatient Care team members to assure cost-effective care.
  2. Collaborates with requesting parties and obtains paperwork for the Inpatient waiting list.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, LICENSE and SKILLS:

  • High school graduate required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Computer usage skills, including experience with Windows-based operating system required.
  • Excellent communication skills and phone etiquette required.
